In 1935, the Tadoba Andhari Wildlife Sanctuary was established, covering 116 square kilometers. Post-independence, the sanctuary’s management was taken over by the government of Maharashtra. In 1955, it was declared a national park, named after the tribal deity Tadoba and the Andhari River.
